What is the International Big Band Camp?

For the International Big Band Camp, we put together some of Europe’s greatest, young jazz talents for a youth big band at academy level. We are looking for 4 trumpeters, 4 trombonists, 5 saxophonists, 1 guitarist, 1 bassist, 1 pianist, and 1 drummer. During International Youth Big Band Camp 2022, the mornings will feature workshops with musicians from Aarhus Jazz Orchestra, and the afternoons will consist of rehearsals and concert with the amazing Miho Hazama. We offer a unique opportunity to play in a youth big band at the very highest level in a professional environment, where you are allowed to meet and play with other budding jazz talents from all over Europe.

The International Youth Big Band Camp will take place from July 13th-16th 2022 at The Royal Music Academy in Aarhus and Musikhuset Aarhus. The schedule consists of three morning workshops, three afternoon rehearsals and one concert.

Come and join this summer's coolest big band community!

Besides some of the best aspiring young musicians from around Europe, we are happy to be joined by this year’s conductor, Miho Hazama.

The grammy-nominated composer Miho Hazama is one of the most promising and talented composers/arrangers of her generation. Composition is her true calling and she has created works for many different musical contexts. Most notably, she has composed for Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Ashley Bouder Project Ballet Company, Yamaha Symphonic Band, to name a few. Miho became a composer in residence of Siena Wind Orchestra in 2017, and she is composer of the year 2019 of Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa. In 2019, Miho took up a post as the chief conductor of Danish Radio Big Band (DR Big Band) after Thad Jones, Bob Brookmeyer and Jim McNeely, to name a few. Miho released the first album featuring DR Big Band “Imaginary Visions” in 2021.
